My book recommendations falling into your lap

Reading has always been a cherished passion of mine. And not only because my sister shoved books into my hand by the time I could hold onto something. Unfortunately, I fell into a two-year reading slump after moving to Florida. However, this year, I made a firm resolution to tackle my ever-growing list of books to read. I aimed high for 50. So far I am at 10. TO BE FAIR! I am a full time student with two jobs, book readers do not yell at me.. 

Anyways hold and behold.  My favorite reads so far for 2024.

My top picks from 2024 so far include immersive journeys into realms of dragons, Egyptian archaeologists, and captivating romance. Every book I picked up was extremely different and unique and I could not put it down. Ask my co workers, the second my lunch hour came around I was scurrying out of the office with my current read. 

In no particular order, here are 5 books I recommend. 

Fourth Wing

Fourth Wing offers a nostalgic journey into pure escapism, provided you're willing to embrace it on its terms. Reflecting on a review, I read prior to picking up the book - it has a large comparison to the dystopian era, reminiscent of the reign of Divergent and the Hunger Games - I find myself in full agreement after diving into the book. WHICH HAS ME GEEKING. The dystopian era of books had me in a CHOKEHOLD. Within its pages unfolds a world where authoritarian rulers reign unquestioned, concealing dark secrets,  alongside a resilient "chosen one"  and the inevitable entanglements of a love triangle. What is not to love about that?!

Regardless of endless reviews saying it's a retold story in a different manner, it is still absolutely amazing. No. Question. Asked. I am really mad at myself for putting this book off for so long, simply because everyone else loved it. Oops. But watching Violet grow and learn and adapt like any heroine while falling in love and learning the hard truths of her world no matter how predictable it is? It is a yes from me.

Go read it.

The Fine Print

A Disney coded book? Heck yes. A Disney coded series of spicy standalone novels of brothers? Even better. A grumpy man and sweetheart girl? Count me in.

In their late grandfather's will, each heir is assigned a task to fulfill to claim their inheritance. The spotlight falls on Rowan in the first book. I will be honest the first book in this series dragged on, but the idea of the story is what kept me going. The last book in this series with Declan was definitely my favorite. 

What The River Knows

One of my favorite movies growing up was National Treasure with Nicolas Cage. And for some reason, somehow this lovely novel reminded me of it. Hidden treasure? Forbidden romance? Feisty parents? An unexpected betrayal? This story has it ALL. The historical Egyptian backdrop is undeniably one of the most striking aspects of the book, the attention to detail had me really thinking I was in the 29th century Egypt. Absolutely phenomenal. Inez is stubborn (like me) so it was fun to watch her dig for treasure and the truth. I will admit the book did take a fine beating when I read the rest of the page. A cliffhanger, I DIDN'T SEE COMING!!! So I went to order the next book.. To realize it does not come out until November. I almost cried on the spot. 

A Court of Thorns and Roses

So, please do not get mad at me. This was a reread for me. And I did not like it any better than the first time I read it. But I didn't remember much and I need to read the last book in the series so I am on a re reading kick. With that though - This book is part of a classic cult loving series. I do completely see why, Sarah J Mass is gifted with fantasy story telling. I am very excited to reread the next book in the series though!

Iron Flame.
