Everywhere is Home

Ever since I could walk I was a little explorer. I climbed on the cabinets, hid under tables, and ran around the house, all while my parents freaked out to make sure I wouldn't get hurt. Yes, I received lots of bruises and cuts from day one, but it never killed my love for exploring. My explorer side just kept growing and growing, until one day it was an addiction. I am kind of like Russel, from Up! (Did that movie make you cry as much as I did?)

At the age of 18, it seemed as though I was having an identity crisis. Part of me wanted to continue into the fitness field as I have been playing sports since I could walk. Another part of me wanted to go into the nutritional field as a dietitian. Finally, another part of me decided on hospitality. What does that have to do with exploring? Well you see, hospitality is more than just restaurants and retail. The career opportunities are endless. (I will discuss those in another post). My focus became on the skies. I wanted to become a flight attendant. Growing up, I was a bit spoiled as my mom was already a flight attendant and she brought me to such beautiful places around the world. But one day, my benefits will soon end. Therefore, I knew I wanted to be a flight attendant and travel each and everyday and see new places, old places, and explore every corner of the world.

Although right now I cannot follow those dreams just yet as I have to be a certain age and I would love to graduate college first. This brings me to the idea of what should I do before I make it to the airline industry? What is another way I could explore the world? The answer was actually pretty easy.

Build a van.

A van?! Yes a van. A tiny home on wheels that you can travel in and EXPLORE the world in. This lifestyle has always popped up on my feed and I never looked into it until last summer when I met my boyfriend. Now the idea of living in a van and traveling is one of the only ideas I want to follow through with right now as everything else in my life keeps getting pushed around. And if by doing this I do not become a flight attendant? Honestly, I might be okay with that.

But the concept of your own home on WHEELS is incredible. I would be a nomad if you will. The concept is beyond exciting and it calls me everyday. I just know I can not keep sitting home, wondering when life will finally become what I want. You have to go and tackle what you want.

As all the van talk comes up between my boyfriend and me, I start to think maybe the airline industry isn't the way I am meant to go. That might just not be the way of exploring I want. Yes, I want to go see new cities like Amsterdam, London, Hong-kong, and many more... BUT a bigger part of me wants to explore the wild side. Being an explorer is something I will follow. I just have to figure out which way to go first. Who knows, maybe I will travel by wheels or a bit, then go to the air after I have kids. Either way, I will be exploring and that is more than enough for me.

Several years ago, I was traveling back from South Carolina. For some reason, a little piggy bank in the shape of an old euro van caught my eye. I begged my mom to let me have it. It has been sitting on my dresser ever since, filling with change. I know that must have been a sign that little me had. The money I have saved all those years will defiantly go towards the van and I have never been more excited.

And that brings me to my title. The van would be my home. Or maybe, home will be where I park it. But either way, home will be everywhere. One day I can will be in Salt Lake City, Utah and the next home will be the Yellowstone National Park. Everyday is an adventure and that is something I strive by in life. Now I am a big explorer who is ready to lace up her hiking boots and hit the trails of every National Forest my future van can take me.

Let every single day be a new adventure.
